What
Would You Do?
By
Brenda Gurley
What would you do if you knew that the time was very short? What if
God gave you a preview of things to come and you realized that it
would not be long before life, as you know it would come to an end?
What would you do??? Would you dance? Would you eat more ice cream
and write letters to all your old friends and tell them how much you
loved them? Would you stop paying your bills, brushing your teeth,
watching your cholesterol? Ask yourself, what would I do?
If you had a
forewarning of 911 and knew that the friend or family member working
at the World Trade Center or those on the hijacked planes would lose
their lives that fateful morning, what would you have done? What if
you knew that sleeper cells are infiltrating this country and there
were terrorist plots to destroy the USA, what would be your plan of
action? Where could you go and what would you do? It is hard to
answer these questions unless you are a child of the Living God. We
are to be ready in season and out of season. Are we ready? Or we too
busy with church programs? Or we too busy thinking about personal
prosperity and personal comfort?
We don’t know what is
in store and we are not trying to use scare tactics to motivate
spiritual responsibility, however we may be facing a time of serious
consequences. Much of the Body of Christ is of the mindset that we
have a long time ahead of us on this earth. It is time to take the
things of God seriously. Lets look at what the Word of God says in
Luke 12:15-21
And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness,
for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he
possesses."
16 Then He spoke a parable to them,
saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.
17 And he thought within himself,
saying, 'What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?'
18 So he said, 'I will do this: I will
pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my
crops and my goods.
19And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for
many years; take your ease; eat, drink,
and
be merry." '
20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This
night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those
things be which you have provided?'
21 So
is
he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."
Luke 12:12-21 (NKJV)
Eternity is a very long time, longer than any of us can
fathom. Many will spend eternity separated from God, even those so
called Christians who will say, “Lord, Lord”, and He will say
“Depart from me…”
It is time for us to
be about the Father’s business. What does that mean to you??? Have
you stopped and asked Him? He is all Wisdom. He will answer us when
we seek Him with all of our hearts. We all need to get before God
and ask for our “orders”.
Maybe you need to buy
some tracts and begin to pass them out everywhere you go. If you are
in sales, you understand the law of numbers. You have to be willing
to take many “nos” before you can receive even one “yes”. Set a goal
for yourself and decide how many you will pass out each day and
don’t quit until you have met your quota. Do it again the next day
and the next and the next. Maybe you need to stand on a street
corner and beckon lost souls to come to Christ, or maybe you may
need to turn off your TVs and go into the prayer closet and
intercede. Some of you may need to quit your job and go into full
time ministry. Some may need to relocate. Some may need to begin to
mentor and disciple weaker brothers and sisters in the things of
God. I don’t have the answers, but I have the questions that need to
be asked at this time. What is each of us to do? What is your
assignment from the Lord? Are you willing to accept that assignment?
Will you have and effect on others to help gather the army of God?
Can you take this challenge as seriously as you would if a doctor
told you that you only had six months to live? What would you do
personally to make that period of time the most productive time of
your life?
We need to live as if Jesus would come back tomorrow. Will you be
found faithful? Will you hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful
servant”?
